New Careers for Health Workers on the Green List

Updated: Jul 24, 2023

The Green List Immigration NZ, which the New Zealand government has stated will include 32 new health roles, is a list of positions that are essential to the country's ability to provide healthcare.

Additionally, all Green List health positions will follow the Straight to Residence pathway as a result of this change, making it simpler for qualified individuals to submit a residency application.

The Green List is exactly what?

A list of jobs that are in demand in New Zealand is called the "Green list." Therefore, in order to draw skilled migrants, the government is providing a preferred route for obtaining residency in New Zealand for those who possess these skill sets.

Green List Occupations in New Zealand

A direct route to residency is provided through jobs on the Green list's "tier 1" category. After working for two years in residence, "tier 2" occupations provide a pathway.

A total of 48 positions in the health sector are now available on the Green List; all of them fall under the Straight to Residence category, which enables immigrants to apply for residency immediately after receiving a job offer.

We will talk about the significance of this statement and what it implies for the healthcare sector in New Zealand as well as the general public.

Roles in Health Have Been Added to the Green List

The Green List is a list of professions that are in great demand in New Zealand and are thought to be crucial for the development of the economy of the country. The addition of 32 new health roles to the list demonstrates the government's dedication to enhancing the healthcare industry and guaranteeing that the population's urgent requirements are met.

In addition to many others, the new positions include those of an addiction specialist/alcohol & drug clinician, chiropractor, clinical dental technician, dietician, dispensing optician, drug and alcohol counselor, enrolled nurse, genetic counselor, and more.

The Straight to Residence track is a shortened procedure that enables qualified individuals to apply for residency without going through the standard Work to Residence pathway. It will be simpler for qualified healthcare professionals to get residency in New Zealand as a result of the decision to switch all health roles on the Green List to the Straight to Residence pathway.

Agreement for the Bus and Truck Driver Sector now includes Deckhands and Ship Masters

The New Zealand government announced a sector agreement in December 2022 that would allow bus and truck drivers to enter the country temporarily. Now that the government has officially announced it, individuals who hold jobs covered by the ANZSCO codes 899211 Deck Hand and 231213 Ship's Master/Skipper will also be added to this sector agreement, enabling them to apply for residency.

The market rate or median wage, as applicable, must be paid to skippers and deckhands, respectively, in order to qualify. The sector agreement's complete specifics are still being worked up, and implementation is scheduled to start in late May.

Conclusion

A positive development for New Zealand's healthcare sector and the general public is the inclusion of Skippers and Deckhands in the sector agreement for Bus and Truck drivers as well as the addition of more health roles to the Green List and the transition of all health roles to the Straight to Residence pathway.

The government's dedication to enhancing the healthcare business and making it simpler for qualified healthcare personnel to gain residence in New Zealand emphasizes the value of this sector to the development of the economy and the wellbeing of the populace.
