Unlocking the Benefits of being an Accredited Employer New Zealand

Updated: Jul 25, 2023

Accredited Employer New Zealand

The NZ government has launched a global retention and recruitment tool that will be useful for NZ employers that want experienced labour worldwide.

Guidelines for Accredited Employer NZ

The new accredited employer work visa rules came into effect in July 2022. As a result of the latest amendments, companies are now legally required to take more accountability when appointing migrant workers.

They must provide training and support on working and living in New Zealand for their migrant employees and offer supporting proof of this process.

There are additional requirements for companies as part of the new rules.

  • Companies are required to provide migrant employees with work-related settlement material.

  • Acquisition managers must complete Employment New Zealand's online employer modules on work rights.

What is the Accredited Employer Work Visa(AEWV) Procedure?

The new accreditation procedure introduces three checks before an employer can employ a migrant worker:

  • The employer check

  • The job check

  • The migrant worker check (the AEWV request).

The Employer Check

If a company does employ migrants, an employer check ensures the company will not exploit the employed migrants, meets employment standards, and is viable. ‍

The Job Check

The job check confirms the employer's employment offer to a migrant worker and shows evidence that the job has been advertised to New Zealanders, complies with employment laws, meets the industry's medium wage and market rate, and reasonable attempts have been made to employ kiwis.

The Migrant Worker Check

The migrant worker check is the final step after the employer approves the test, passes the job check, and becomes accredited. The migrant worker must meet health requirements, identity, and immigration NZ's character. They must also meet the qualification and skills of the employer's job check application.

Benefits of being an accredited Employer NZ

  • Assume your business requires you to employ/ defy the workforce and skilled laborers from diverse parts of the world. In this instance, an accredited employer work visa NZ will be ideal for recruiting and finding appropriate employees for vital jobs.

  • Businesses still need to do labour market tests for every role but certainly not for every person. So if an accredited employer employs various people with similar role titles, it is not mandatory to do a labour market test for everyone before offering jobs.

  • Accredited employers in NZ can avail of a distinct work visa category with various facilities and privileges.

  • Employer accreditation helps grow retention for expert migrants as it prepares the migrant with a safe pathway to residence. Migrant workers are likely to stay with a business that has helped them in such a big way.
